Flickers' Rhode Island to screen Iran's ‘Maned & Macho’

Iranian short animation ‘Maned & Macho’ has been selected to go on screen at the 36th edition of the Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) in the US.

The qualifying event for the Academy Awards, the RIIFF, will host ‘Maned & Macho’ as well as short animated piece ‘Run Rostam Run’ directed by Hossein Molayemi in the animation section.

Directed by Shiva Sadeq-Asadi, ‘Maned & Macho’ is about a girl’s repressed emotions and instincts, which are embodied in some animals that come out of her dreams. However, no one in her family is receptive to these animals.

The 11-minute animation has so far attended a number of international film events, including the 41st Göteborg Film Festival in Sweden, the 47th Giffoni International Film Festival in Italy, and the 35th Busan International Short Film Festival in South Korea.

‘Maned & Macho’ has recently won the main award at the 3rd Animavi International Film Festival of Poetic Animation in Italy.

Launched in 1997, the RIIFF takes place every year in Providence and Newport, Rhode Island as well as satellite locations throughout the state.

It is among the world's 10 best short film festivals. It is held with the aim of providing artistic opportunities for independent filmmakers and to discover young talents among those filmmakers.

The RIIFF has been a qualifying festival for the Academy Awards since 2002.

The 2018 edition of the Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival will take place on August 7-12 in the US.
